Endophytic bacteria are bacteria that live in plant tissues, without causing disease symptoms. One of the plants where endophytic bacteria live is teapot grass (Cyperus rotundus). The use of teki grass as a medicine includes stomach spasms, nausea, vomiting, gastric pain, itching, boils and urinary stones. This can occur because teki grass contains secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, steroids and sequiterpenoids. The purpose of this study was to determine how the ability of antibacterial activity of endophytic bacterial isolates from teapot grass stems in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella thypi. The method in this study is an experimental method and is carried out using the disc diffusion method. The results of the study obtained 6 isolates of endophytic bacteria from the stem of teki grass (Cyperus rotundus). Endophytic bacterial isolates capable of inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria S.aureus were 3 isolates with isolate codes sp1, sp4, and sp5 while 5 isolates capable of inhibiting the growth of S.typhi were 5 isolates with isolate codes sp1, sp2, sp3, sp4 and sp5. Endophytic bacterial isolates that are able to inhibit both pathogenic bacteria are two isolates with isolate codes Sp1 and Sp5. |
