Abstract: Phubbing berasal dari gabungan istilah phone dan snubbing, yakni dimaknai sebagai sikap menyakiti lawan bicara dengan menggunakan smartphone secara berlebihan. fenomena phubbing yang terjadi di kalangan mahasiswa Universitas Medan Area diaggap tidak sesuai dengan etika komunikasi, sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Tindakan phubbing dapat mengubah Etika dalam etika berkomunikasi di kalangan mahasiswa Universitas Medan Area. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini berupa wawancara mendalam, observasi, serta dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Teknik analisis menurut Sugiyono (2020). Hasil Penelitian ini yaitu bahwa perilaku Phubbing dapat memberikan perubahan dalam etika berkomunikasi yang dimana menunjukan sikap mengabaikan lawan bicara dengan menggunakan smartphone yang berlebihan. Sehingga terjadilah sikap mengabaikan, tidak menghargai, tidak memperhatikan dan tidak peduli terhadap lawan bicaranya, dan terdapat hambatan yang menjadi kesulitan dalam mengatasi perilaku phubbing pada mahasiswa Fakultas isipol prodi Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Medan Area seperti kesadaran diri yang rendah,ketergantungan pada smartphone, masalah dalam menyampaikan umpan balik,kepentingan pribadi dan kurangnya pengetahuan tentang dampak Phubbing. Perilaku Phubbing dapat mengganggu percakapan yang berujung pada kesalahpahaman antar individu. Phubbing comes from a combination of the terms phone and snubbing, which means as an attitude of hurting the person you are talking to by using a smartphone excessive. phubbing phenomenon that occurs among university students Medan Area is considered not in accordance with communication ethics, so this research aims to find out how phubbing can change ethics in communication ethics among Medan Area University students. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Technique Data collection in this research took the form of in-depth interviews, observations, as well as documentation. The data analysis technique uses the analysis technique according to Sugiyono (2020). The results of this research are that Phubbing behavior can provide changes in communication ethics which show attitudes ignoring the person you are talking to by using your smartphone excessively. So there is an attitude of ignoring, not appreciating, not paying attention and does not care about the person he is talking to, and there are obstacles that arise Difficulty in overcoming phubbing behavior among students at the Faculty of Social and Political Science Study Program Medan Area University Communication Science is like self-awareness low, dependency on smartphones, problems in delivering feed behind, personal interests and lack of knowledge about the impact of Phubbing. Phubbing behavior can disrupt the conversation it leads to misunderstanding between individuals.
