This study aims to determine the significant relationship between self-control and addiction to gadget use in adolescents, especially in UPT SMP Negeri 17 Medan. This study uses a quantitative correlational approach. The subjects of this study were adolescents of UPT SMP Negeri 17 Medan totaling 909 adolescents. The data collection technique used a Likert scale model. The sampling technique used Purposive Sampling from the screening results. So that the sample used was 96 adolescents. Data analysis used the Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis technique. Based on the results of data analysis, rxy = -0.567 p = 0.000 <0.05, there is a negative relationship between self-control and addiction to gadget use, which means that the higher the self-control, the lower the addiction to gadget use. From the results of the study, it is known that self-control is adolescents of UPT SMP Negeri 17 Medan classified with a hypothetical mean value of 50 and an empirical mean of 42.64. Furthermore, gadget addiction is also classified as low with a hypothetical value of 50 and an empirical value of 56.59. The coefficient of determination found r2 = 0.321. This shows that self-control has a contribution to gadget addiction of 32.1%. | en_US |
