Pengaruh Stres Akademik terhadap Kecanduan Smartphone pada Mahasiswa Psikologi di Universitas Medan Area

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh stres akademik terhadap kecanduan smartphone pada mahasiswa psikologi di universitas medan area. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa/i psikologi di universitas medan area. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 114 orang. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah teknik accidental sampling. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah skala Academic Stress Scale. Yang dimodifikasi dari alat ukur perceived Sources of Academic Stress yang dimiliki oleh Bedewy & Gabriel (2015).dan Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV) yang disusun berdasarkan aspek yang dikemukakan oleh Kwon et al. (2013). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara stres akademik dan kecanduan smartphone, dengan koefisien determinasi (r²) sebesar 0,417. Ini berarti bahwa 41,7% variasi kecanduan smartphone dapat dijelaskan oleh stres akademik yang dialami oleh mahasiswa. Dengan kata lain, semakin tinggi stres akademik yang dirasakan oleh mahasiswa, semakin tinggi pula tingkat kecanduan mereka terhadap smartphone. Rata-rata skor stres akademik yang ditemukan adalah 81,71, sedangkan rata-rata skor kecanduan smartphone adalah 64,63, mengindikasikan bahwa mahasiswa mengalami stres dan kecanduan smartphone dalam kategori tinggi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa stres akademik memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap kecanduan smartphone, dan disarankan perlunya intervensi dan dukungan untuk mengurangi dampak negatif dari kecanduan smartphone terhadap kesejahteraan akademik mahasiswa. This study aims to determine the effect of academic stress on smartphone addiction in psychology students at Medan Area University. The population in this study were psychology students at Medan Area University. The research sample consisted of 114 people. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The measuring instrument used in this study was the Academic Stress Scale, which was modified from the Perceived Sources of Academic Stress measuring instrument by Bedewy & Gabriel (2015), and the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV) which was compiled based on aspects proposed by Kwon et al. (2013). The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between academic stress and smartphone addiction, with a coefficient of determination (r²) of 0.417. This means that 41.7% of the variation in smartphone addiction can be explained by academic stress experienced by students. In other words, the higher the academic stress felt by students, the higher their level of addiction to smartphones. The average academic stress score was 81.71, while the average smartphone addiction score was 64.63, indicating that students experienced high levels of stress and smartphone addiction. This study concluded that academic stress significantly influenced smartphone addiction, and suggested the need for intervention and support to mitigate the negative impact of smartphone addiction on students' academic well-being.
