Abstract: Skripsi ini membahas tentang upaya peningkatan kualitas dan daya saing produk tas di UMKM Vina Bag Medan melalui penerapan metode benchmarking. This study aims to improve the design and functionality of tote bags produced by the Vina Bag SME in Medan by applying the benchmarking method as a strategic approach to product development. The main issue addressed is the lack of innovation in both the design and usability of the existing tote bags, which has led to reduced consumer interest, especially among students. A qualitative research method was used, involving data collection through observation, interviews, and literature studies. Benchmarking was conducted by comparing two types of bags— tote bags and shoulder bags—to identify their respective strengths and weaknesses. These findings served as the foundation for designing a new product that better meets consumer needs. The final bag design utilizes baby canvas and katun ima materials and includes added features such as a laptop compartment, side pockets for water bottles, and several small internal and external pockets. The design process employed SolidWorks software and included component analysis, material selection, and product construction planning. The results show that benchmarking is an effective method for creating more functional, ergonomic, and competitive products. The newly designed bag is expected to enhance consumer interest and strengthen Vina Bag’s competitiveness in the local creative industry.
