| Abstract: | Pasar rakyat memiliki peran strategis dalam mendukung perekonomian lokal, namun keberadaannya mengalami penurunan akibat berkembangnya pasar modern dan perubahan pola konsumsi masyarakat. Traditional markets play a strategic role in supporting the local economy, yet their existence has declined due to the rapid growth of modern retail and shifting consumer behavior. Pasar Kawat in Tanjung Balai faces several issues, including inadequate infrastructure, suboptimal utility systems, and poorly organized vendor zoning. These conditions have reduced the market’s competitiveness and visitor comfort. Through a waterfront architecture approach, this study proposes a revitalization concept for Pasar Kawat that is integrated with the Tanjung Balai Waterfront. The design process was conducted systematically through site, function, form, structure, and utility analyses, resulting in a linear massing concept aligned with the Asahan River and spatial arrangements that accommodate both trading and recreational activities. The findings demonstrate that the market not only functions as a local economic hub but also as a public space that strengthens the coastal city identity, enhances environmental quality, and holds potential as a sustainable water-based tourism attraction. |
