dc.description.abstractKota Medan sebagai kota industri terbesar di Sumatera Utara memiliki tingkat pertumbuhan sektor industri yang pesat, khususnya di Kawasan Industri Medan (KIM) 1 dan 2. Pertumbuhan tersebut menimbulkan peningkatan jumlah tenaga kerja yang signifikan, sehingga menyebabkan tingginya kebutuhan hunian layak dan terjangkau bagi para buruh. Namun, keterbatasan lahan dan meningkatnya permukiman liar di sekitar kawasan industri menjadi permasalahan yang perlu segera diatasi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan perancangan rumah susun buruh yang mampu menyediakan hunian efisien dan ramah lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang rumah susun buruh dengan pendekatan arsitektur eco-living yang menekankan keseimbangan antara kebutuhan fungsional, kenyamanan penghuni, dan kelestarian lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif melalui observasi lapangan, dokumentasi, serta studi literatur dan studi banding terhadap beberapa proyek rumah susun dan bangunan berkonsep eco-living. Lokasi tapak terpilih berada di Jalan KL. Yos Sudarso, Medan Deli, karena memiliki aksesibilitas baik, kedekatan dengan kawasan industri, serta ketersediaan infrastruktur pendukung. Hasil perancangan menghasilkan konsep rumah susun empat lantai dengan penerapan prinsip eco-living berupa optimalisasi pencahayaan alami, penghawaan silang, pemanfaatan vegetasi peneduh, area hijau, serta sistem utilitas hemat energi. Selain itu, ruang terbuka publik dan fasilitas komunal disediakan untukmendorong interaksi sosial antarpekerja. Desain ini diharapkan dapat menjadi solusi hunian vertikal yang efisien, sehat, dan berkelanjutan bagi masyarakat pekerja industri di Kota Medan. Medan City, as the largest industrial center in North Sumatra, has experienced rapid industrial growth, particularly in the Medan Industrial Area (KIM) 1 and 2. This development has significantly increased the number of workers, leading to a growing demand for affordable and decent housing. However, limited land availability and the rise of informal settlements around the industrial zones have created spatial and social challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to design a workers’ apartment that provides efficient and environmentally friendly housing.This study aims to design a workers’ apartment using an eco-living architectural approach that emphasizes a balance between functional needs, occupant comfort, and environmental sustainability. The research applies a qualitative method through field observations, documentation, literature review, and comparative studies of several apartment projects and eco-living buildings. The selected site is located on Jalan KL. Yos Sudarso, Medan Deli, chosen for its good accessibility, proximity to industrial areas, and adequate infrastructure support. The design results in a four-story apartment complex that applies eco-living principles through the optimization of natural lighting, cross ventilation, the use of shading vegetation, green open spaces, and energy-efficient utility systems. In addition, public and communal spaces are provided to foster social interaction among workers. This design is expected to serve as an efficient, healthy, and sustainable vertical housing solution for industrial workers in Medan City.en_US
