The waste problem is an environmental and social crisis occurring across various regions of Indonesia, including Deli Serdang Regency. Unmanaged waste accumulation has polluted the environment, worsened sanitation conditions, and increased the risk of disease. Namorambe District, particularly villages such as Deli Tua, Kuta Tualah, and Batu Gemuk, has become a significant route for illegal waste disposal. Sudirejo Village, located on Jalan Pahlawan II and within the affected area, was selected as the site for designing a Recycling Village. This project was developed as a community-based solution that integrates an energy-efficient architectural approach. The design concept applies passive system strategies such as cross ventilation and natural lighting, along with the use of local and recycled materials. The design process uses a qualitative-descriptive method with a case study approach, starting from site observation, literature review, and site analysis to formulate a contextual and climate-responsive design. The Recycling Village is expected to serve as a model for integrated waste management that is not only technically efficient but also raises community awareness of the economic and environmental value of waste. It also aims to provide a functional public space that educates and empowers local communities.
