| dc.description.abstract | Penelitian ini menyajikan perancangan dan pengembangan mesin 3D printer logam berbiaya rendah dengan kapasitas cetak minimal 200 × 200 mm, menggunakan metode pengelasan Metal Inert Gas (MIG). Printer 3D komersial konvensional umumnya terbatas pada material polimer atau resin, sedangkan printer 3D logam skala industri masih relatif mahal dan sulit diakses oleh usaha kecil dan menengah (UKM). Untuk menjawab keterbatasan tersebut, prototipe dikembangkan di Laboratorium Teknik Mesin, Universitas Medan Area, melalui tahapan perancangan konsep, pemilihan komponen, proses pemesinan, perakitan, serta pengujian kinerja. Sistem menggunakan rangka aluminium profile, transmisi ball screw, dan kawat las MIG sebagai bahan cetak. Pergerakan dikendalikan oleh motor stepper pada setiap sumbu yang terintegrasi dengan papan kontrol 3D printer berbasis Arduino Mega 2560. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa mesin mampu mencetak bentuk geometri dasar logam seperti lingkaran dan kotak dengan dimensi sesuai spesifikasi desain. Estimasi total biaya pembuatan sebesar Rp13.883.000 dengan waktu pengembangan sekitar lima bulan. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa printer 3D logam dengan biaya terjangkau dapat direalisasikan, sehingga berpotensi menjadi solusi bagi UKM dalam melakukan prototyping dan manufaktur komponen logam secara mandiri. This study presents the design and development of a low-cost metal 3D printer with a minimum printing capacity of 200 × 200 mm, utilizing the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding method. Conventional commercial 3D printers are generally limited to polymer or resin materials, while industrial-scale metal 3D printers remain relatively expensive and inaccessible for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). To address this limitation, a prototype was developed at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Universitas Medan Area, through several stages including concept design, component selection, machining, assembly, and performance testing. The system employs an aluminum profile frame, ball screw transmission, and MIG welding wire as the printing material. Movement along each axis is controlled by stepper motors integrated with a 3D printer control board based on Arduino Mega 2560. The testing results indicate that the machine is capable of printing basic metal geometric shapes such as circles and squares with dimensions that meet the design specifications. The total estimated manufacturing cost is Rp13,883,000 with a development time of approximately five months. These findings demonstrate that an affordable metal 3D printer can be realized, offering potential as a practical solution for SMEs to independently perform prototyping and manufacturing of metal components.. | en_US |
