This research is prompted by the high volume of waste produced by the Gorengan Bayo Rambe MSME, which generates approximately 8,550 kg of plantain peel waste per year, or about 40 kg per day."This quantitative study aims to optimize the conversion of this waste into organic shoe polish using the Value Engineering (VE) method. Based on the four VE phases (information, creative, analysis, and recommendation), Alternative 3 was selected as the optimal solution. Quantitatively, this formulation utilizes a mixture of vinegar, alcohol, coconut oil, and caustic soda with an auxiliary material cost of IDR 9,945/kg. Processing 40 kg of waste yields a total product mass of 73 kg of shoe polish. Performance tests indicate superior quality, featuring a rapid drying time of 1 minute and high gloss intensity based on physical and field testing. Implementing this value engineering approach provides a strategic advantage for the MSME by transforming waste disposal costs into an economically valuable and environmentally friendly product. |
