The rapid growth of the construction sector has had a significant impact on energy consumption, the use of natural resources, and rising carbon emissions. The building and construction sector is one of the major contributors to global energy consumption and carbon emissions, highlighting the urgent need for more energy efficient and sustainable building technologies. (Cousins, 2022). Buildings are among the largest contributors to the consumption of electricity, water, and materials that have the potential to cause environmental pollution. For centuries, humans have built homes, buildings, and infrastructure using relatively simple materials such as stone, wood, steel, and concrete which have served as the backbone of construction across the globe. Cement and steel production are among the world’s largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Every year, billions of metric tons of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere to meet global construction needs. Therefore, the concept of Green Building is increasingly being adopted as an effort to create buildings that are environmentally friendly, energy efficient, healthy, and sustainable.en_US
