The latest data indicates that the rate of forest destruction in Indonesia has reached 3.8 million hectares per year, and the country has suffered losses of Rp 83 billion per day due to illegal logging practices. Even worse, these illegal logging practices not only result in state losses but also negatively impact the current generation (direct losses), such as floods, droughts, climate change, disease hazards, and landslides. Although statements about fighting illegal logging and conducting numerous operations have been made, the results have tended to be disappointing. This is because law enforcement in illegal logging cases has not yet addressed all the main actors involved in illegal logging, namely the financiers and capital owners. The problem in this thesis is: How is the legal regulation of forestry crimes in Indonesia? What factors contribute to forestry crimes? What is the role of the North Sumatra Regional Police in combating forestry crimes in Mandailing Natal Regency? |
