Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) merilis bahwa Nilai Tukar Petani Tanaman Pangan (NTPP) Sumatera Utara sepanjang tahun 2021 selalu bernilai <100, yang berarti para petani mengalami defisit perdagangan. Padahal para petani, khususnya padi, berperan sentral menyediakan makanan pokok masyarakat. The Central Bureau of Statistics Indonesia ,published that North Sumatra's Food Crop Farmers Exchange Rate throughout 2021 was always at <100, which means that farmers experienced trade deficits. Farmers, especially paddy farmers, play the central role in providing the community’s main food. Therefore, their income and welfare should become attention focus. Hence, this research is conducted, aiming for analysing income and welfare level of paddy farmers' households in Tebing Tinggi Municipality, North Sumatra. The case study is conducted in Bajenis District, the largest area contributing to paddy production there. The data is obtained primarily (from field survey). The income level is measured by calculating the difference between revenue and production costs. The level of welfare is assessed by adopting 7 welfare indicators in Susenas by BPS (2014). This study found that income level of paddy farmers in the study area ranged from around 8 to 25 million rupiahs per harvest period (about 3 months). Compared to Tebing Tinggi's Minimum Wage Level, the paddy farmers can be classified as having feasible income. As for the welfare level, they are also classified as prosperous, generally. However, specifically (per indicator), the 'sufficient' or 'less' welfare level are still found, which means improvements are still urgent.en_US
