Hubungan antara Social Comparison dengan Body Image Pada Remaja

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between social comparison and body image among early teenage girl who student in Faculty of Psychology, University of Medan Area aged 18-22 years old, with the participants that meet the criteria as much as 70 people. Social comparison is the process of comparing oneself with others, whereas body image is the negative or positive evaluation, perception, and individual feeling’s about the physical appearance. This is a quantitative correlation study which is based on the Likert scale method, were measured using social comparison scale and body image scale. The results of this study showed a significant negative correlation between social comparison and body image in adolescence who students in Faculty of Psychology, University of Medan Area. There is rxy = -0,540 and p = 0,00. Similarly unknown r2 = 0,2916 or 29,16% in formation body image. Similarly unknown that their social comparison and body image value are moderate
